Scholarship Info

For the past six years the Lake Shore Lightning has given a scholarship, funded by the coaches, to a graduating senior who wishes to continue her education at an institution of higher learning.  In the past this award has been given to a recipient who exhibited the athletic drive, scholarship, and sportsmanship that exemplifies the goals of our program.  

This past fall we were lucky enough to bring on a new player who not only exemplified these goals but took our ideas of scholarship to a new level.  She was driven to excel in her quest for learning.  When she was not playing she was studying and was the force behind us setting up study halls at tournaments in the fall to give our players a taste of what it is like to be a collegiate softball player.

Unfortunately we lost Lauren Edgerton at the end of May 2009.  We miss her greatly, not only for her athletic ability, but more importantly because she was such a fine example of a scholar athlete.  This loss has spurred us to rededicate ourselves to teaching not only softball skills and sportsmanship but also to strive to instill the importance of scholarship and a love for life-long learning in all the young ladies we come in contact with whether they play for the Lake Shore Lightning or some other team.

We are renaming this effort the Lauren E. (this is what we called Lauren) Scholarship.  We hope to raise enough funds each year to award at least one, and possibly more, young athletes who exhibit the same dedication to sport and scholarship that Lauren did.
